ONE GRIEVING MOTHER TURNED HER PAIN INTO PURPOSE AFTER LOSING ONE OF HER SONS TO GUN VIOLENCE OVER 15 YEARS AGO

ORESA NAPPER-WILLIAMS CELEBRATES THE NEWLY FORMED SAFER COMMUNITIES ACT BILL SIGNED BY PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN AND GRANT RECIPIENT FROM EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY

(NEW YORK, NY.) – September 7, 2022 – Oresa Napper-Williams is the epitome of grace and strength. Her life would forever change when her 21 year old son Andrell was innocently gunned  down on a hot summer day in Brooklyn in 2006. One of the perpetrators was a 15 year old boy.  Since then, Oresa or Reese as she is affectionately called, turned her pain into purpose and instantly became an agent for change, thus the birth of Not Another Child, Inc (NAC).

Not Another Child, Inc is an organization that has been in the trenches for over 15 years and has implemented significant programs like the Heal, Recover and Grow, which includes family support  and community sessions, retreats and therapy in all aspects of the great work that NAC has implemented. In addition, NAC’s Out The Hood Project, also enables participants to experience career & cultural diversity through reading, research and excursions to cultural diverse areas. They have also been very instrumental in the area of therapeutic support, as they offer said services to families and communities directly impacted by gun violence. The King Ron Playing for Change Sports Program, began as a one day sports and live entertainment event, and swiftly developed into a full summer league that was created to draw youth to hear the message of peace and unity, as well as understanding the parallel between the decisions they make and the consequences that may arise.

Oresa Napper-Williams has been diligent in the fight against gun violence in underserved communities as she has also played a pivotal role with connecting survivors of gun violence via the Black Brown Peace Consortium, a role that has opened her up to national exposure and a seat at the most famous table in the land, The White House. The newly formed Safer Communities Acts Bill was created to advocate for those whose lives have been shattered by gun violence, in addition to providing funding for crisis intervention and red flags laws. The signing of the act marked Mrs. Napper-Williams third visit to the White House under the Biden administration.

“With the Safer Communities Act, we’ve moved the mountain of obstruction and indifference that has stood in the way of gun safety laws for decades. Now – in the name of those we’ve lost in elementary schools, grocery stores, parades, it is time to galvanize that movement,” said President Joe Biden after the signing of the act.

In addition to the Safer Communities Act, N.A.C. also made additional strides this summer when the organization was awarded a grant from Everytown Community Safety Fund, as they awarded 15 community-based violence intervention organizations with a combined $1.5 million in funding for their respective organizations. https://everytownsupportfund.org

Not Another Child, Inc is also celebrating another milestone as they just signed the lease on their new office located in Harlem, NYC. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be announced at a later date.

About Not Another Child, Inc

Not Another Child, Inc.was established in 2006 after the senseless killing of Andrell Daron Napper; a victim of a stray bullet that came from a gun being held by a 15 year old. Not wanting his death to be in vain, Andrell’s mother, Oresa Napper-Williams, and brother, Justin Napper, knew that despite this tragedy, something had to be done to positively change and influence the lives of other families. Therefore, through their loss, Not Another Child was birthed. They created the not for profit with the purpose of helping inner-city families who are directly impacted by violence.
