Motown Gospel Receives 20 Stellar Gospel Music Awards Nominations

 

Tye Tribbett Leads with Eight Nominations, Tasha Cobbs with Seven Nominations in Top Categories Including Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, CD of the Year, Producer of the Year and More

 

(Nashville, TN – December 4, 2013) – Motown Gospel receives 20 Stellar Gospel Music Awards nominations with Tye Tribbett leading with eight nominations, Tasha Cobbs with seven nominations and VaShawn Mitchell with two nominations. Tribbett receives nominations for Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, CD of the Year, Producer of the Year, Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year, Urban/Inspirational Single or Performance of the Year, and Praise and Worship CD of the Year. BJ Shores receives a nomination for Recorded Music Packaging of the Year for Tribbett’s Greater Than project.  Cobbs receives nominations for Artist of the Year, the Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, CD of the Year, Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year, and Praise and Worship CD of the Year. “Break Every Chain” was also nominated for Song of the Year for songwriter Will Reagan. Mitchell receives nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year and Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year. Bobby Yan received a nomination for Mitchell’s “Turning Around For Me” for video direction.

 

Tribbett’s Greater Than CD debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart and remained at #1 for four consecutive weeks. This week, Greater Than moves to #7 on the Top Gospel Albums chart.  The CD also debuted at #9 on Billboard’s Top 200. Greater Than is Tribbett’s inaugural project with Motown Gospel and is his highest album debut in his recording career.  Tribbett’s current single, “If He Did It Before….Same God” is #6 on Billboard’s Gospel Songs chart. This week, Tribbett won a Soul Train Award for Best Gospel/Inspirational Performance. Greater Than has been lauded by music critics across the country receiving stellar reviews from top newspapers including the New York Times and Los Angeles Times.

 

Cobbs’ hit praise and worship anthem “Break Every Chain” was #1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart for seven consecutive weeks. The single continues to climb the Adult R&B radio chart. This week, Grace moves to #8 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart and after nearly a year on the Billboard charts, the album has not fallen below #8 since its February 2013 release. Recently, Cobbs won three GMA Dove Awards for Gospel Performance of the Year (“Break Every Chain”), and Contemporary Gospel/Urban Song of the Year (“Break Every Chain”). Her Top 5 Billboard album, Grace, alsowon Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year. Grace is produced by label-mate and multiple award-winning recording artist VaShawn Mitchell.

 

A six-time Stellar Award-winner, Mitchell’s Created 4 This project debuted on the Billboard Top Gospel Album chart at #3.His first single from the album, “Turning Around For Me,” peaked at #4 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart.
