Brandon Watts and Selah Sound Release Sunday Morning in Tribute to LaBarbara Watts
The October 4th single honors the life and influence of Watts’ mother while supporting Baton Rouge’s Ablaze Youth Choir

BROOKLYN, N.Y., September 29, 2026 — Root Management client Brandon Watts and Selah Sound will release their new single, “Sunday Morning,” on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The song will be available across all major streaming platforms and arrives as both a celebration of the Black church experience and a deeply personal tribute to Watts’ mother, LaBarbara Watts, who recently passed away suddenly at age 77.
“Sunday Morning” grew from the memories that shaped Watts’ earliest understanding of faith, family, music, and community. His mother took the family to church every Sunday, nurturing the love for Sunday mornings that would eventually inspire the song. She was also present when the recording was made, giving the release an even deeper meaning following her passing.
“Before I ever wrote this song, she was showing me how to live it. And what means the most to me now is that she was in the room when we recorded it.”
The single’s artwork, created by September Unique, turns those memories into a visual family story. The collage depicts Watts as a child dressed by his mother, the baby-blue Lincoln Town Car the family drove to church, a church building from his childhood, and the people and sounds that made Sunday mornings unforgettable. The song, written by Watts, Matthias Patrick, Bryen Reeves and produced by Watts, Gary Coach, and Trenton Bylo, is a mixture of traditional choir music, with notes of contemporary pop and even swing.
The release also extends LaBarbara Watts’ legacy of pouring into young voices. Streaming proceeds from the song’s first year will benefit Ablaze Youth Choir, a youth choir based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For Watts, the choir reflects the same promise, discipline, and community he witnessed in the youth choir his mother led when he was growing up.
“This one is for you, Mom. I love and miss you dearly,” Watts shared in announcing the release.
