Who is the Author of the Anthem,“Nobody Greater”?

Vashawn Mitchell’s “Nobody Greater” is now the anthem at almost every church and is well on its way to being recorded by a plethora of people..just wait and see. Although Vashawn and the under-rated Tasha Cobbs blazed the song and took it to another level, none of the aforementioned penned the lyrics. So, who is the person behind this future hymnal? Who took such simple words that we use in our prayer time and constructed in a way that it touches the heart of man, woman and child (My 7 year old daughter knows it word for word). His name is Darius Paulk and he is one of the most humblest people you will ever meet. When I called him for our interview, he had to call me back on his lunch break. Something tells me he won’t have to worry about that this time next year.

Root: First I want to congratulate you on writing the song “Nobody Greater”. Naturally, that song has catapulted Vashawn Mitchell’s career to the next level but you actually wrote the song. How does that make you feel?

Darius Paulk: I am very excited. It is definitely a little overwhelming but all in all I am excited and ready for what’s next…

Root: When you wrote the song did you say to yourself “This is going to be a hit”?

Darius Paulk: No. I was actually in the bathroom and it came to me. Laughter. I never expected it to be as successful as it is and as it is going to be.

Root: It is good that you said that because I don’t know if you realize that “Nobody Greater” is
the fastest growing single at radio right now and it resonates with millions of people. It is like Chris Tomlin’s song, “How Great Is Our God”, where people across the world in every church sang that song and so many different artists recorded that song. Are you ready for people calling you and wanting to record your song?

Darius Paulk: I am preparing for that now but I am ready for it.

Root: Now how did Vashawn end up with the song?

Darius Paulk: Vashawn and I have been friends for years and this local group in Atlanta sang it at his birthday celebration and he called me later and said “ Darius, how come I have known you for so long and didn’t know you write music”? And I said “Because you never asked”.

Root: Laughter. How old are you and how long have you been writing?

Darius Paulk: I am 26 years old and I have been writing since I was 16 years old. I come from a family of singers and musicians.

Root: Is “Nobody Greater” your first recorded song?

Darius Paulk: I have a few songs recorded Underground but this is my first national released song.

Root: WOW. You came out the gate with a hit!

Darius Paulk: Yeah. God is good.

Root: Now I notice that you are also a singer in your own right. I was looking on youtube and I gotta say that your voice is amazing! Are you working on a solo project?

Darius Paulk: It’s in the works but I won’t be doing anything in the near future but it’s coming….
