Home Gospel Music News RIP Lawonda Campbell

Last Saturday the body of Christ lost another soldier in the person of Lawonda Campbell. Campbell, known as the original “Aretha Franklin of Gospel”, was most notably known as one of the lead singers with Hezekiah Walker & The Love Fellowship Crusade Choir. Who can forget her angelic voice on songs like “Sweeter As The Days Go By” and “To Be Like Jesus”, both written by Philadelphia native, James Poyser?

Lawonda Campbell will be sorely missed by the gospel community, the city of Chicago and most of all by her family. She leaves behind her husband- Pastor Campbell, three children and a host of family and friends.
