R3- Mississippi Mass Choir- …Then Sings My Soul
Reviewer: Robert Hasan James
After more than two decades and eight recordings, the Mississippi Mass Choir is back with a brand new 2 Disc Set entitled, …Then Sings My Soul. The CD starts with Bless The Lord, a current, yet traditional sound fit perfectly for MMC. Staying true to their roots, an old Milton Biggham classic I Love To Praise Him, led my choir matriarch Mosie “Mama” Burks, is enough to please MMC’s old fans, while the Jules Bartholomew (Faithful Is Our God, Calling My Name, God Favored Me) penned God Made Me will take the listener to the ultimate praise and worship experience and introduce them to an entirely new audience. However, MMC does not stray too far away from their roots on songs like We’ve Come To Praise The Lord, Lord, You’re The Landlord and the foot stomping/hand clapping, Don’t Stop Praying.
Coming from a state that still carries the scars of hate and oppression, the Mississippi Mass Choir is that guiding light that has managed to bless the body of Christ for 23 years and counting. Even in a gospel world filled with praise and worship anthems and rhythm and gospel hits, MMC has managed to stay true to themselves, still clad in their “oh so familiar” blue and red choir robes and distinct traditional sound. MMC is keeping the choir sound alive and well with their new offering, so this CD is a must have for all of you choir lovers. Let’s face it, not every choir can say they were invited to sing for Pope John Paul II. The Mississippi Mass Choir can!
