New York, NY – December 11, 2012 – Executive changes at Verity Gospel Music Group were announced today, with Geo Bivins named General Manager of the label, while Stanley Brown is promoted to Head of A&R and Cheryl Marks is promoted to VP of Marketing.

Geo Bivins also serves as Senior Vice President, Urban Promotion, RCA Records, a position he has held since 2007.  He will continue to lead all aspects of urban promotion for the label and his role will be expanded to oversee the day to day operations of Verity.  Bivins came to RCA from Capitol Records where he was Senior Vice President, Urban Promotion and spearheaded a succession of chart-topping hits for the label.

Stanley Brown was most recently Sr. Director of A&R at Verity where he facilitated the signing of artists Deon Kipping, Jason Nelson and Latice Crawford.  Brown is an accomplished musician, producer and label executive with over 20 years experience in the music business.  Before joining Verity in 2010, Brown was music director for BET’s hit Gospel singing competition SUNDAY BEST and served under the leadership of Reverend Floyd H. Flake as music director of Greater Allen Cathedral of New York.  Brown’s label executive experience includes Vice President of A&R, Island Black Music, where he signed and oversaw projects by Karen Clark Sheard, Donald Lawrence, T.D. Jakes and others.

A 20-year music industry veteran, Cheryl Marks was most recently Sr. Director of Marketing at Verity and has spearheaded award-winning campaigns for Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker, the WOW Gospel series and more.  Marks began her career at Jive Records, where she worked in marketing for 10 years.  Before joining Verity, Marks held marketing positions at imprints of Interscope and Motown Records and served as Vice President of Marketing at TVT Records.

“We are excited about the future of Verity Gospel Music Group and the viability of Gospel music,” says Tom Corson, President  & COO RCA Records.  “We are committed to aggressively leading the label to achieve unprecedented success in the marketplace.”

A division of RCA Records, Verity Gospel Music Group boasts a world class roster of diverse Gospel talent.  The label’s artists include Byron Cage; Kurt Carr; Latice Crawford; Kirk Franklin; Fred Hammond; Deon Kipping; Donnie McClurkin; J Moss; Jason Nelson; Marvin SappRichard Smallwood; Hezekiah Walker; and more.  The label has amassed 13 Gold and ten platinum-certified releases and achieved a record number of Top-10 singles and albums.  Additionally, Verity is home to the top selling WOW Gospel compilation series that has generated seven platinum and three gold-certified releases since its inception in 1998.

Last week, ROOT announced some shuffling going on, as James Jazzy Jordan retired as Executive VP/General Manager of Verity Gospel Music Group and speculation that Stanley Brown was promoted to Executive VP/General Manager of the label, with Brown himself confirming the promotion.  As it turns out, Geo Bivins will take over the role of General Manager, while Stanley Brown has been promoted to Head of A&R, with the role of Executive VP either vacant or being filled in the near future. Looks like the shuffle never stops, however, we congratulate Geo, Stanley and Cheryl on their promotions and ROOT them on as they take Verity Gospel Music Group to the next level.
