The red carpet was rolled out as BeBe and CeCe Winans were honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Recipients of numerous Grammy, Dove, Stellar, NAACP Image Awards and many more honors, the duo’s names will now be mentioned in the same breath as existing honorees in the gospel such as: James Cleveland, Andrae Crouch, and Mahalia Jackson.
Speakers at the ceremony included funny lady and actress, Yvette Nicole Brown, legendary multihyphenate Quincy Jones, jazz saxophonist Dave Koz and the pair’s brother, Pastor Marvin Winans. After comically referring to them as their birth names Benjamin and Priscilla, Yvette Nicole Brown said she listens to BeBe and CeCe music “everyday.” She even brought along her own album cover of the self titled “BeBe and CeCe” project as evidence of her long-standing support. Jazz musician Dave Koz said that their music “inspires” him. He also said, BeBe was like a brother to him and joked that CeCe should “get a prize for having to put up with him for all these years.”
Legendary icon Quincy Jones served as an existing Walk of Fame recipient welcoming the duo to the family of stars.
The duo’s older brother, Pastor Marvin Winans, said his father was the one responsible for BeBe not being in The Winans because when there was an opportunity for BeBe to join the group, their father said it was not BeBe’s turn. Pastor Winans added, “I used to be famous. Now I’m famous for being known as CeCe’s brother,” but he was happy with that, he went on to say.
BeBe and CeCe both thanked God and gave Him all the glory. They also thanked their family, the speakers and each other.
CeCe went on to thank Jim and Tammy Faye Baker of the PTL show, crediting them with helping to form the duo when the siblings were told to sing “Lord Lift Us Up” together on their show. The crowd was treated to a performance of “Close to You,” from their latest album “Still.” Afterwards, Pastor Winans said a prayer before BeBe and CeCe unveiled the 2,452nd Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Attendees included Pastor I.V. Hilliard and Lady Bridget Hilliard, Jim Baker, Mary Mary’s Erica Campbell and her music producer husband Warryn Campbell, and of course Mom Winans and a host of family, friends and adoring fans.
